Fair Food is launching the first year of our SNAP CSA Program this growing season from May-September 2017. All SNAP recipients, including current Double Dollars customers at the Farmstand, can receive a bi-weekly box of fresh, local, seasonal fruits and vegetables for just $10 in SNAP. The full growing season includes 12 boxes in total, and only one month’s worth of boxes are paid for at a time.

If you'd like to sign up, please visit the Farmstand or fill out the signup form here.

What is a CSA?

A CSA stands for community supported agriculture, and it allows people to purchase a portion of a farm’s harvest during the growing season (May-September). Fair Food’s SNAP CSA comes in the form of a biweekly box, and contains produce from the same farmers we source from at the farmstand, as they grow it!

What can I expect in my box?

Inside each box, you’ll receive five types of vegetables and one type of fruit, as well as information about the produce and the farmers who grew them.

While we can’t one hundred percent guarantee what kinds of local, seasonal food are going to be ready when we pack each box, here is a general list of fruits and veggies that might show up (and there’s plenty more we haven’t listed!):

May - June: Asparagus, Kale, Lettuce, Spinach, Arugula, Sugar Snap Peas, Rhubarb, Mushrooms, Mint, Garlic, Tomatoes, Scallions, Scapes, Fiddleheads, Ramps, Chives, Strawberries, Blueberries

July - August: Sweet Peppers, Hot Peppers, Cucumbers, Eggplants, Broccoli, Green Beans, Sweet Corn, Okra, Collard Greens, Watermelons, Raspberries, Zucchini, Squash, Peaches

September: Spaghetti Squash, Potatoes, Cauliflower, Tomatoes, Peaches, Pears, Carrots, Cabbage, Brussel Sprouts, Radishes, Leeks, Butternut Squash, Broccoli, Apples

Will a SNAP CSA affect my Double Dollars Monthly Limit of $40?

No! You can still earn a full $40 a month of Double Dollars and also purchase the SNAP CSA.

Can I still sign up even if I'm not sure I'll be able to commit to the whole growing season?

Yes! Boxes are paid for on a monthly basis, so you can start, stop or restart any time depending on your SNAP funds.

How much does the entire season cost?

$120 in SNAP funds for 12 boxes (paid in monthly installments of $20 or $30)

How do I pick up my CSA?

Pickup days are Thursday, Friday or Saturday of that week, and you can choose which day is most convenient for you! SNAP requirements prevent future payments of any purchase received more than 14 days in advance, so neat monthly payments are not always possible, but Fair Food is committed to providing as much flexibility for SNAP customers.
