While buying local is certainly a powerful tool for changing our food system for the better, there's nothing more impactful in our journey towards a sustainable future than socializing local.

This past weekend, Fair Food celebrated 10 years of The Brewer's Plate - the region's premier food and drink festival - with a night of artful local bites, more artisan brews than you could count, swingin' live music, and a sausage showdown for the ages. The Kimmel Center's three tiers were temporarily transformed into a beer and food lover's paradise - a playground for the brew geek and gastronomically inclined alike. And play we did, like giddy little children scampering from salty to sweet to bitter like they were trees in tag. Many thanks to all the kids that came out for the game, as well as the sponsors, restaurants, cheese-makers, and brewers who chaperoned!

The evening was certainly a whirlwind of Philly's finest. But if you managed to slow down for just a moment, somehow resisting that next pour and turning a momentary blind ear to the friend who's sure "you've got to taste this!," you might have noticed that there were more than only "mmms" and "aaahs" in the air. In fact, just past the fresh-shucked oysters, to the right of a wheel of washed-rind cheese, and a little left of stout, there were a whole lot of "whys" and "hows" and "wheres" being kicked around.

While the food and beer may have served as a tangible - and delicious - centerpiece, the real magic of The Brewer's Plate is in the conversations that take place over a fine brew paired with a tasty small plate.

Fair Food is all about connecting consumers to the source of their food, and what better way to do that than bringing together brewers, chefs, cheese makers, and food artisans for an evening of debauchery with the people whose passion for food and drink make their livelihoods possible?

What better way, eh? Hm. How about a bigger venue? More vendors? Heck, why don't we just set aside a whole day for the thing!

Enter: Philly Farm & Food Fest. For the third year in a row, Fair Food is teaming up with PASA to give even more people the opportunity to connect directly with a whole marketplace of local farmers, food artisans, chefs, and sustainable business owners. OnSunday, April 13, we'll welcome more than 120 vendors to the Pennsylvania Convention Center for an epic day of sampling, shopping, and learning with some of the region's premier local producers.

Beyond the marketplace, Fest will include a full roster of kitchen demos, book signings, panel discussions, and more - plus the opportunity to enjoy exclusive one-on-one time with producers at the Local Libations Lounge and Shellfish Salon (advance tickets only)!

At Philly Farm & Food Fest, like The Brewer's Plate, there will be plenty of delectable goodies to take center stage...but the true focus will be faces and names. Whether you were with us on Sunday or not, we hope that you join us for another celebration uniting takers and makers. Come say hello!

The 3rd Annual Philly Farm & Food Fest will take place from 11 am to 4 pm on Sunday, April 13. More info and tickets at www.phillyfarmfest.org. For more photos from last weekend's Brewer's Plate, check out Facebook.
