Happy May! The Farmstand is flush with Delaware and Jersey ASPARAGUS (from Fifer Orchards and Sheppard Farms, respectively) and RHUBARB from Lancaster Farm Fresh! Plus, we’re rotating through more than a dozen varieties of vibrant, tender cooking greens: this week, look for ORGANIC TURNIP GREENS, GREEN SWISS CHARD, RED-RIBBED DANDELION GREENS, and ORGANIC KOMATSUNA, in addition to the ORGANIC KALE and COLLARDS that carried us through winter in Landisdale Farm’s high tunnels. Pick one you’ve never tried (or haven’t had since last fall), along with a bunch of SPRING GARLIC and YELLOW ONIONS and turn them into this delicate but hardy creamed greens dish. ORGANIC BABY FENNEL arrived this week, and all of a sudden, RADISHES are everywhere. Zone 7 brings us RED RADISHES from Genoa Farm, and we hope to have ORGANIC PINK BEAUTY RADISHES from Lancaster Farm Fresh on Friday and FRENCH BREAKFAST RADISHES from Plowshare Farm next week. Whip up a salad of your favorite radish varieties (or a mix to add color) sliced thinly and tossed with blanched asparagus, crumbled feta, lemon juice, olive oil, and your favorite herbs.

And boy do we have herbs! Overbrook Herb Farm’s yields are up, and we’re stocking their chemical-free MARJORAM, THYME, ROSEMARY, BAY LEAVES, PEPPERMINT, SAGE, GARLIC CHIVES, and lovely EDIBLE FLOWERS (like pansies and nasturtiums) every week – look for them in our produce cooler. Also abundant: CURLY PARSLEY from Flaim Farms; ORGANIC CILANTRO from Marolda Farm; ORGANIC CHIVES from Landisdale Farm; and ORGANIC LOVAGE from Lancaster Farm Fresh! Lovage’s serrated fronds and hollow stems taste like a parsley-celery blend. Take advantage of the temperate weather with this simple, nourishing lovage soup recipe.
