BLACK, WHITE and GREEN EGGPLANTS are in this week from AT Buzby and Landisdale Farm. Perfect for grilling or a batch of garlicky baba ganoush! SUMMER SQUASHES continue to come in strong from OAK GROVE, DOUBLE BROOK and LFFC. Shredded, sliced or diced, they’re a great substitute for heavy starches when the heat is on. If you’re looking for the other kind of heat, we’ll have JALAPEÑO, HUNGARIAN and MIXED HEIRLOOM HOT PEPPERS from LFFC; In addition, we’ll have STRIPED and PURPLE BELL PEPPERS from Marolda Farm and Cherry Grove. Lastly, we’re excited that Overbrook Herb Farm has brought us GRAPE LEAVES this week! Use them to wrap fish before steaming or put them into your pickles to keep them crisp.
If you’re in the mood for sweets, the CANARY MELONS from LFFC are in their prime, as are AT Buzby’s APHRODITE CANTALOUPES and WATERMELONS. Beechwood Orchard’s STONE FRUIT is looking great too: Our WHITE DONUT PEACHES are sugar sweet and the PLUMS make for a refreshing snack. The BLACKBERRIES from Shady Brook are ripe and bursting with flavor!
Caputo Brother’s Creamery makes their first delivery of CAGLIATA and RICOTTA to the Farmstand this week. Now you can stretch your own FIOR DI LATTE at home using real fermented curds! Finally I would like to say thanks and farewell! This will be my last week as Product Manager at the Fair Food Farmstand. I am moving to Boston to pursue a Masters in Gastronomy at Boston University this fall.
