Slowly but surely, green things are creeping back into the Farmstand! Zone 7 will be bringing us a number of goodies this week: GREEN CURLY KALE & FLAT LEAF PARSLEY from Blooming Glen, SPINACH from Marolda Farms and ITALIAN DANDELION GREENS from Petronglo Farm!  We’ll also have tender RAINBOW CHARD from Green Meadow Farm.  These greens are from NEW spring growth, and best lightly wilted or steamed.  MICRO PEA LEAVES from Blue Moon Acres will be in abundance as well... Perfect in a salad or along sides spring meals like quiche or broiled shad. Lastly, we’ll be the lucky recipients of a bumper harvest of wild harvested WATERCRESS from David Siller. A spicy and fresh addition to any meal! The Farmstand still has a large selection of Happy Cat SEEDS in stock, too. These seeds are locally & sustainably grown and feature many rare heirloom varieties unique to our region. The mild winter (& early spring) means it’s already time to start planting your vegetable garden, so grab a few packs & get dirty!

THOUGHTS OF SPRING HOLIDAY FEASTS UPON YOU? We have plenty of Sweet Stem Farm HERITAGE CLUN FOREST LAMB available in our freezer section. Leg of lamb is near and dear to me, as I grew up to eating my grandmother’s recipe quite a few Easters (admittedly, ala a Pepperidge Farm Cookbook) and I’ve grown up to enjoy it in all sorts of preparations. If you’ve never cooked a leg before, shoot me an email for some ideas. Our legs are boned, rolled, netted and weigh between 4-7 lbs, the perfect roast for a small family gathering. As for HAMS and BRISKETS, keep an eye on our website as our offerings will be online shortly. This spring we’ll have Country Time Farm’s Large Black and Old Spotted Heritage Breed H as well as Sweet Stem Farm Hams. We’ll also have available a limited number of naturally raised Briskets via Glenn Brendle of Green Meadow Farm.
