Cheese Apprentice
Fair Food is seeking an intern to work a minimum of 10 hours per week starting Winter of 2011 into 2012 for no less than a 6 month period.

Job Responsibilities: Reporting to Fair Food’s Cheesemonger & Meat Manager, Paul Lawler, the intern will provide support for cheese sales, outreach to cheesemakers and research.

•    Cutting cheese effectively and get to know the families of local cheese;
•    Researching farms and cheeses as directed by supervisor;
•    Helping establish our new cheese program at our retail location in the historic Reading Terminal Market;
•    Aiding with public tastings and pairing events associated with our mission.
•    Marketing our cheese through direct point of sale conversations and feeding customers!

Qualifications
•    Enthusiasm for dairy farmers and particularly a care for CHEESE & DAIRY is a must!
•    You MUST enjoy eating cheese.
•    Self-directed & Detail oriented
•    Schedule will be flexible but some Friday/Saturday availability a must.
•    Confidence with knives/knife skills a major plus
•    An ability to listen  well to supervisor & to farmer partners
•    Ability to lift 50 lbs and not have it be a big deal
•    Some sales experience a MUST

Benefits: Apprentice is unpaid but does receive a generous discount at the Fair Food Farmstand in Reading Terminal Market and you will be fed plenty of cheese. In addition, intern will have the opportunity to come along on trips to meet area cheesemakers and make cheese at least once. Apprentice will be able to learn a lot about care for cheese, the seasons of dairy and raw cheese & dairy regulations. Marketing and sales skills will be another area for potential growth.
